You know that premium embarrassment that doesn’t send a memo?
The type that grabs you by the collar in front of everybody and whispers, “Today na your turn.”
Yeah. That was me. Live.
It was a regular friday sales meeting at the office. Everyone was settled in, discussing strategies, when suddenly, boom!
I hear my name.
"Olivia, let’s have a quick roleplay. Sell JMK Prime to us."
Ehn?!
My spirit left my body and came back.
I adjusted my seat. Smiled like I had my life together. Opened my mouth and started talking.
For the first few seconds? I was cooking. Sharp delivery. Smooth talking. Then just as I was getting comfortable
Disgrace said, ‘Shift, let me land.’
My brain did factory reset.
I got stuck, guys. Completely.
Not the “give me a moment to gather my thoughts” kind of stuck. No. This was full system shutdown.
And why?
Because I hadn’t done proper research on the location.
Now, you might be thinking, But it’s just a roleplay. It’s not that deep.
Oh, but it is.
It is that deep.
Infact, it is very deep.
Because, in my mind, that wasn’t just a practice session, it was a real client. And if that had been an actual sales call, I could’ve blown it.
And this wasn’t just any random property, we were discussing. It was…
JMK PRIME.
Our latest launch. A property with a name that holds weight because at our company 1159realty, we don’t just slap random names on properties. We name them after our clients.
Our investors inspire the legacy we build. (If you missed the full story behind JMK Prime, you might want to check it out here – https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGY7YqAI7lF/?igsh=M2M1ODAxYW9rcjI4).
But at that moment? The weight of that didn’t matter because I was standing there, completely blank, in front of my colleagues.
Now, let me be honest. When they moved on from me and called someone else, I wanted to disappear. Sink into my chair. Pretend I wasn’t there.
My brain started throwing accusations at me.
"How did you not prepare?"
"What were you even doing all week?"
"See your life outside!"
It felt like that exam where you know you should have read the textbook but decided, Mehh... let me just read the summary. And boom! Exam day comes, and the summary is nowhere to be found.
That moment? That was FEEDBACK.
Not wrapped in a polite email.
Not delivered with a soft “you did your best” pat on the back.
Nope. This was the in-your-face, raw type.
And let’s be real feedback like this stings.
It forces you to sit with the discomfort of your own gaps.
But guess what?
That discomfort is where the growth happens.
Because after that moment? You best believe I did my research.
The next day, I went deep. I didn’t just learn facts about JMK Prime, I understood it. The location, the value, why it was named after one of our clients, why an investor would choose it over anywhere else.
And you know what’s crazy?
By the time Monday came, I didn’t just feel confident in my knowledge. I wanted another chance.
I was itching to prove to myself that I had learned from the moment.
Here’s what that experience taught me:
1. Assumption is expensive. Whether in business or life, thinking you “kind of” know something can cost you more than you realize. I thought I knew enough, but when it mattered, I froze.
2. Preparedness isn’t optional. Sometimes, the opportunities you’ve been waiting for won’t come with a warning. You either show up ready or fumble the bag. Simple.
3. Your worst moments can be your best teachers. That flop? It wasn’t failure, it was a wake-up call. And honestly? I’d rather learn this lesson now, in a roleplay, than when sitting across from a high-stakes client.
4. Feedback isn’t always sugarcoated. Sometimes, it comes in the form of awkward silences and stomach-dropping moments. But if you listen, if you really pay attention, it’ll show you exactly where you need to improve.
And that’s why I’m sharing MY LIFE AS A REALTOR.
Because beyond the closed deals and wins, there are moments like this, the ones nobody talks about but shape you the most.
If you’ve ever had a moment that exposed your blind spots, let’s gist!
I promise, you’re not alone.
Stay tuned for Episode 3.
Because trust me, if you think this was something… you don’t want to miss what’s next.
Ciao!
