A lot of times, people say…
“I want to change the world.
“I want to impact lives.”
Maybe you’ve even said it.
But for me? The real question has always been
How many lives within your own circle are you impacting?
Because aren’t the people closest to you part of the world you want to change?
Sometime ago, I received a message. The message read…
"Guess what?"
At first, I was confused. But the moment she said it, I felt this rush of excitement because I knew what it meant.
She had become a member of AIESEC, which is the world's largest youth-run organization in over 100 countries that helps young people develop leadership skills through relevant hands-on global experience to build a more inclusive, and sustainable world.
And if you know me, you know how much this means.
As an AIESEC alumni, I can tell you firsthand. AIESEC isn’t just an organization. It’s an experience. One that pushes you to grow. Personally. Professionally. All-round. The kind of growth that leaves a mark.
But you know what hit me the hardest?
This wasn’t the first message like this.
Last year, same thing.
Another friend. Another "Guess what?"
Another proud moment for me.
And the wildest part?
Both of them joined after I graduated.
No nudging. No reminders. Just seeds I didn’t even know I had planted.
And you know why?
Because back in school? I didn’t shut up about AIESEC😂.
Like, seriously, you’d think I was getting paid.
But honestly, when you find something good, you can’t gatekeep.
Fast forward to now, these people took action because of something I once shared, and yapped about.
THAT’S INFLUENCE. The type that happens when you’re not even watching. The type that echoes when you’re no longer there.
And that got me thinking…
We always talk about impact like it’s some big, world-changing event.
But sometimes? Impact looks like your friends making bold moves because you showed them what’s possible.
Sometimes, influence sounds like a “Guess what? I got in!” message when you least expect it.
And even with the fact that AIESEC’s application process is not a walk in the park, I was so proud they pushed through.
Because here’s what I know:
No one joins AIESEC, stays intentional, and leaves the same. Growth is inevitable.
I still remember the time I applied for the role of Electoral Chair, it was my first time and it was the longest election in history (I kid you not 😭😂). But I had the most supportive team, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
Although I tried to make the most of my experience, I sometimes wish I had explored AIESEC even more.
Now, let me leave you with this:
The people around you? They’re listening. Watching. Learning.Your influence is louder than you think.
To all AIESECers around the globe, keep being awesome.
And to you reading this, start where you are. The world begins within your circle.
Hey AIESEC!!
